Middletown Country Club will participate for the 5th consecutive year in the nationwide Patriot Golf Day this coming Friday, August 31st through Monday (Labor Day), Sept.3rd. Patriot Golf Day was founded by Major Dan Rooney, a PGA Professional and an F-16 fighter pilot that has served three tours of duty in Iraq. Patriot Golf Day benefits the Folds of Honor Foundation, which gives scholarships to families of United States servicemen and women that have been killed or wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. Most golf courses, including Middletown Country Club, will increase their greens fees by $1 with those funds raised going to the Folds of Honor Foundation. “Patriot Golf Day is the perfect way to say thank you and to honor the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform. Freedom is not free, and we must never forget those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation,” said PGA Head Professional Dan Hoban. “I have had the pleasure of spending some time speaking to Major Rooney and his partner, Major Ed Pulido (a combat-wounded amputee). They are two of the most dynamic Americans I have ever met. You can see the passion in their eyes when they speak about never leaving any families behind, just like they would never leave any soldier behind on the field of battle.” 87% of military families that have lost a family member or have had a member wounded do not qualify for Veterans Administration assistance. To date, the Folds of Honor Foundation has given 2,638 scholarships to derserving families. With 6,288 soldiers lost and 47, 383 wounded in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, there is much work to be done.
Middletown Country Club will add $1 to our greens fees during the Patriot Golf Day Labor Day weekend. Each dollar raised will go directly to the Folds of Honor Foundation. Please call (215)-757-6951, ext.10 or log on to our website, www.middletowncc.com, to make your tee time for this special cause. We will also hold our very special Patriot Golf Day ceremony on Monday, Labor Day Sept. 3rd at 10 AM on the 1st tee. This short ceremony will feature several guest speakers along with color and rifle guard from the Jesse W Soby Post of the American Legion, Langhorne, PA. All play will be suspended at 9:50 AM so that all golfers may return to the 1st tee for the ceremony (about 20 minutes total) and then return to play afterwards.
