The Middletown Country Club will begin the 2014 Junior Golf Program as part of the PGA Sports Academy beginning on Wednesday, June 18th.  Each session runs for two weeks and consists of 6 2-hour sessions.  There are two seperate age groups: 6-10 and 11-17.  Both boys and girls are welcome in each group.  The first two sessions run from June 18th through June 26th and the final two sessions are conducted from July 28th through August 1st.  Our programs are suitable for both the experienced junior that is looking to make their high school golf team as well as the beginner junior that is discovering golf for the first time.  The instructor is Middletown CC PGA Head Professional Dan Hoban, who doubles as the head golf coach at Philadelphia’s Roman Catholic High School. A member of the Roman Catholic High School Sports Hall of Fame, the 21st Ward Sports Hall of Fame, and the Philadelphia Inquirer 2005 Coach of the Year, Hoban has over 20 years of experience teaching junior golfers and has had members of his programs play for over 25 different high school golf teams.  Two of his alumni are now PGA Professionals and many have played or are playing college golf.  The cost per session is $125 and signups can be done at the golf shop or by calling (215)-757-6951, ext.10.   Most of the groups are small in nature although we don’t turn any kids away. Special arrangements can be made if makeups have to be done or attendance in sessions have to be split up for a junior to attend the entire program.

Returning to Middletown for its second year and several other clubs in our area is the national-level PGA Junior League Golf, which mirrors little league baseball and has teams from different clubs playing matches both home and away.  PGA Junior League Golf is designed to bring a “little league” atmosphere to the game of golf.  We are looking for juniors (both boys and girls) age 8-13 and under to fill a team of 12-14 kids.  PGA JLG provides a structured league environment for young golfers to compete and have fun! This is a great way to get, and keep, kids involved in the game!  PGA JLG participants receive:

* Team jerseys, golf balls, and PGA JLG bag tags

*5 regular season competitions plus coaching/practice

*Opportunity for advancement to post-season and All-Star teams

*Access to customized website home page for our PGA JLG team featuring schedules, standings, and stats

The program structure consists of a fun team scramble format for players of every skill level and ALL participants get to play in every competition.

“If your youngster can drive, chip, or putt, there’s a spot for them on Middletown’s PGA JLG team! said Middletown CC PGA Head Professional Dan Hoban.  “This is certainly a great way for younger juniors to play in a fun but competitive format and play some outstanding golf courses in the Philadelphia area.  This program that has been created by the PGA of America and is in year two in the Philly area, and I think this is only the beginning.”

The registration fee for the junior league is $80 which includes the regular season matches, the team jerseys, golf balls, and bagtags. Practices will be scheduled by the team coach.  We are looking for a volunteer to be the team “coach” (similar to Little League Baseball) .
